The Rise of King Block (Build in Progress)

🧱 BitJump Devlog — The Rise of King Block (Build in Progress)

đź‘‘ A New Boss Takes Shape

Work has officially begun on one of BitJump’s most expressive and challenging encounters yet — King Block, the self-proclaimed ruler of the pixel realm. This will be the primary antagonist of the BitJump game.

This floating red monarch commands two powerful hands that hover by his sides, hurling attacks, spawning enemies, and creating utter chaos in the boss arena. He’s smug, flashy, and absolutely convinced he can squash Bit without breaking a sweat.

Note that we may see multiple encounters with King Block throughout the game.

⚙️ Boss Setup

  • Main Body — obj_kb_body
The core of the fight. It floats around the room and takes all the actual damage from the player’s attacks.

  • Hands — obj_kb_lefthand & obj_kb_righthand
Each hand follows the main body and acts independently, performing attacks on its own cooldown. They can’t be destroyed, but hitting one enough times disables it temporarily — giving players a chance to focus on the boss.

đź’Ą Phase Breakdown

  • Phase 1 — The Smug King
Slowly floats back and forth, taking turns attacking with a single hand.
    • Attacks:
      • 🔥 Fireball Shot â€“ A charged projectile aimed at the player.
      • 👾 Summon Minion â€“ Spawns a small enemy into the arena.
      • đź’Ł Bomb Drop â€“ Drops an explosive that detonates after a delay.

  • Phase 2 — The Furious King
Once enough damage is dealt, King Block loses his cool — entering an angry, faster second phase. Moves more aggressively and allows both hands to attack at once.
    • New Attack:
      • ⚡ Spikeball Slam â€“ A spiked ball is tossed into the air. A warning indicator flashes on the ceiling where it will fall, giving players just enough time to dodge the impact.

  • Phase 3 — The Fallen King
When finally defeated, King Block’s confidence shatters. He begins to cry, flail, and spark with mini explosions as his floating hands spiral out of control before fading away.

🎭 Phase Transition Moments

To make the fight feel more dynamic, two short cinematic transitions will be added between phases:

  • Smug → Furious (Phase 1 → 2)
    • King Block freezes mid-air, growling before letting out a massive roar. The screen shakes, his eyes flare with anger, and the music shifts into a faster, more intense version of the boss theme.

  • Furious → Defeated (Phase 2 → 3)
    • He pauses in disbelief, eyes wide in shock. The stage music cuts out entirely for a few seconds — just ambient hum and crackling energy — before he bursts into chaotic defeat animations.
    • This silence before the storm gives the final blow some serious weight.

🧩 Next Steps

Next up: implementing the full state machine system to control King Block’s phases, attack patterns, and transition animations — complete with camera shake, music triggers, and expressive particle effects.

King Block is shaping up to be one of the most personality-packed moments in BitJump yet. Stay tuned — his royal meltdown is just getting started.
