Significant Visual Updates (Build 0.8.0)

Significant Visual Updates (Build 0.8.0)
Hey everyone — thanks for hanging in there! Life decided to speedrun a few boss fights on me recently, so updates were a bit quieter. But fear not: BitJump is back with a chunky, sparkly new build.
Let’s dive into what’s new in 0.8.0:
🌟 1. A Quick Life Update (AKA: Why I Temporarily Vanished)
Sometimes your real-life quest log fills up faster than a slime-filled dungeon. I’ve been juggling a whole bundle of important life things, but development never stopped — it just went into “stealth mode” for a bit. Thanks for your patience and for sticking with the project!
🎨 2. Major Visual Style Upgrade (World 1 Is Glowing Up!)
The biggest change in this update is a significant visual overhaul:
-
The old dotted stippling style?
👉 Retired. -
The new beveled, cartoon-inspired art direction?
👉 Very much alive and looking great.
This update is especially visible on the World 1 level select map and in all World 1 stages. The whole world has more depth, clarity, and charm.
Plus, the world feels more alive now:
-
Grass waves gently
-
Flowers flutter
-
Mushrooms wiggle
Breakable blocks have more style (randomly chooses a sprite of 9 options so its not the same thing over and over)
Subtle wave lapping on the world map for landmasses
Little motion touches go a long way in bringing the environment to life, and World 1 is now the blueprint for where the rest of the game’s visuals are headed.
✨ 3. Secret Areas Got an Upgrade (They Sparkle Now!)
Finding secrets should feel magical — so now it does!
When the player uncovers a hidden area, you’ll see a sparkle burst to visually confirm you found something sneaky. It’s subtle, satisfying, and way more polished than quietly phasing through a wall like a glitch gremlin.
💾 4. HTML5 Save System Fixed (No More Accidental Memory Wipes)
If you’ve been playing the HTML5 version, you might’ve noticed a… quirky feature where the game would overwrite your save file the moment the page loaded.
As fun as “permadeath for your progress” sounds on paper, it’s not ideal.
The save system has now been corrected:
-
✔️ Saves no longer auto-overwrite
-
✔️ Your progress persists properly
-
✔️ HTML5 users are safe from unintentional time loops
You may now breathe again.
🎉 That’s It for 0.8.0!
The new visuals, improved feedback systems, and stable save handling should make the game feel more polished and cohesive as development continues.
Thanks again for your patience — and as always, if you try out the new build, I’d love to hear what you think!
